Eosinophils are characterized by having a nucleus with 2 lobes (dark purple) and many granules (dark pink). They are critical for the immune response to parasitic infections and contribute to the response to allergens, pollutants, and irritants. Excessive numbers of these in tissues can cause eosinophilic immune disorders. Credit: Blausen Medical [CC BY-SA 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0)].
