CDC Sows Confusion about Immunity to COVID-19

In August, CDC updated testing guidance regarding COVID-19. The subsequent news reporting resulted in confusion. A few points of clarification:

People who have recovered from COVID-19 should not consider themselves no risk to themselves or others. They should still practice social distancing and wear a mask or face covering when in close proximity to people outside of their household or germ circle.

The CDC did not state that immunity only lasts for 3 months or always lasts for as long as 3 months. We simply do not know, and it is likely that the duration of immunity is highly variable from person to person.
