Amyloid precursor protein. Cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP) produces three fragments. The intracellular domain can move into the nucleus to regulate gene expression, the beta-amyloid fragment can form fibrils and is associated with plaques in Alzheimer’s disease, and the large soluble part functions as a cellular signaling mediator.
