Many types of nerves innervate the skin. They have different electrical properties and respond to different kinds of stimuli. There are nerves near the skin surface, nerves surrounding the hair follicle, and nerves around the Meissner corpuscle. The highlighted nerves are the ones that are positive for TrkB and mediate the response to light touch and contribute to some forms of neuropathic pain.
